GEA SCHOLARSHIPS

GEA is committed to helping its membership and their families better themselves and their careers, that's why we have established the GEA Scholarship program. Each year, we choose 4 individuals that demonstrate the drive to further their education and training, an interest in public service, and the need for financial assistance to attain their goal. There are two classes of eligibility for the scholarship fund. One is for GEA members themselves, the other is for their dependents. GEA awards two non-repayable scholarships per class of eligibility per year. However, the GEA Scholarship Committee reserves the right to determine the amount and number of grants to be presented in any given year.

To qualify for a GEA Scholarship, one must be a member of GEA or a legal dependent of a GEA member, including children, stepchildren, adopted children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces or nephews. Applicants must also:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.6 or higher on a scale of 4.0 and submit transcripts supporting this fact. For those applying to undergraduate school this applies to their current High School grade point average, for those applying to graduate school this applies to their undergraduate grade point average.
  • Have been accepted by an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Submit 3 letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a completed application form.
  • Submit a 500 word essay identifying their career goal, and why they and others would benefit from their receipt of the scholarship.

Preference is given to applicants with prior public service or volunteer experience. Applications must be post marked or transmitted via e-mail or web site by April 30 and scholarships will be distributed in August.
